Shot Logan was the 16th nuclear detonation of Operation Hardtack II, fired on 16 October 1958 in a tunnel at 284 metres depth in Area 12 of the Nevada Test Site — the mountainous Rainier Mesa region. It was a UCRL test of a small kiloton-range device intended as an ABM warhead, producing 5 kilotons within its predicted range of 3–7 kt, and was declared successful. The device was exceptionally compact: 28 centimetres in diameter, 29 centimetres long, weighing 28.6 kg. This photograph was produced by Colorage Inc. of Burbank, California — the specialized dye transfer printing laboratory contracted by the AEC
